1. Lectures
Three lectures I would like to give:
Embedding Study Skills into the Curriculum
Combining Creative Approaches with Structured Repetition
Building Your Own Teacher Jetpack
Some ideas here - happy to receive advice and/or encouragement on any of them. You can simply reply directly to this post, and it will go straight into my inbox.
Also very aware that these could (perhaps should) become posts and podcasts first!
2. At School
This week I attended a training session on leadership. It was hopeful and cheerful in tone and intent. The presenter facilitated thoughtful conversations around communicating and mediating. Pleasingly, there was a lot around leadership in the classroom - encouraging teachers to purposely blur the lines between our classroom stuff and other responsibilities we might have around the school. It’s never a bad thing to stop occasionally to reflect on the importance of your role in terms of who you are influencing and the impact you can have; in term of reputation, all of that is up for grabs during the whole school day (not just during lessons).
3. Some Sound Advice
I loved the Daisy Christodoulou episode of Econtalk. Her new book is called I Can’t Stop Thinking About VAR, and it sounds great. In this chat, Daisy talks about more than just VAR. But her thoughts on the future of it (particularly her idea for solving handball controversies) are fascinating nonetheless. There’s loads to unpack in this episode. Her work on comparative judgment is essential, and this conversation is full of wisdom, not least Daisy’s resonant use of the Thomas Sowell quote, "There are no solutions, only trade-offs."
