Nine More Great Books for Teachers (That Aren’t Actually About Teaching)
More books in today's post. Books that can really make a difference...
I’m currently half-way through Rick Rubin’s The Creative Act. Loving it. I recently heard somebody describe it as the best book about running they has ever read, despite the fact it has nothing to do with running, at least on the surface. So, with that idea in mind, here are nine exceptionally helpful non-teachery books I’ve read that i think are perfect for teachers…
1. What I Talk About When I Talk About Running – Haruki Murakami
A reflective memoir on discipline, perseverance, and the mental side of endurance.
2. Atomic Habits – James Clear
A masterclass in forming good habits and breaking bad ones.
3. The 5AM Club – Robin Sharma
A book about maximizing mornings for productivity, success, and self-improvement.
4. Grit – Angela Duckworth
Explores the power of passion and perseverance—two qualities every teacher wants to instill in their students (and themselves).
5. The War of Art – Steven Pressfield
A must-read on overcoming resistance and unlocking creativity.
6. Quiet – Susan Cain
A fascinating look at the power of introverts—perfect for understanding both students and yourself.
7. Think Again – Adam Grant
A book about unlearning and reevaluating ideas—essential for a growth mindset, especially in education.
8. The Power of Now – Eckhart Tolle
The essential deep dive into mindfulness and being present.
9. Talk Like TED – Carmine Gallo
A guide to powerful public speaking—great for teachers who want to improve their communication and storytelling skills.
